Space Weather Observations With InSight

چکیده
Solar activity, in the form of coronal mass ejections and corotating interaction regions, results changes solar wind that propagate out through system interact with magnetic field environments planets. Such phenomena have been observed to affect plasma around Mars as seen from orbit. However, no surface observations previously possible because absence ground-based instrumentation. Here, for first time, we observe effects increased activity magnetometer on InSight mission December 2020. We find several days including fluctuations at periods minutes hours. Although only flanks this relatively weak ejection hit Mars, provide insight into how alters fields surface.

Space Weather Studies Using Low-frequency Interplanetary Scintillation Observations
Plasma disturbances originating on the Sun, such as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are a major factor in determining ‘space weather’ in the near-Earth environment. Virtually the only current source of routine observations of these disturbances as they propagate through the interplanetary medium are interplanetary scintillation (IPS) data. We review current work on time-dependent tomographic rec...
متن کاملWeb Weather 2.0: Improving Weather Information with User-Generated Observations
Introducing web weather 2.0, this paper suggests that active participation by civil society may arise through sharing of environmental data through observations of weather and other measurable variables in the environment performed by individuals. Collecting data from individuals is here suggested for improving weather data currently used by weather research centers and practitioners. Extending...
متن کاملWind observations with Doppler weather radar
Introduction Weather radars are commonly employed for detection and ranging of precipitation, but radars with Doppler capability can also provide detailed information on the wind associated with (severe) weather phenomena. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) operates two identical C-band (5.6 Ghz) Doppler weather radars. One radar is located in De Bilt and the other one is loc...
متن کاملSpace Weather Prediction with Exascale Computing
Space weather refers to conditions on the Sun, in the interplanetary space and in the Earth space environment that can influence the performance and reliability of space-borne and ground-based technological systems and can endanger human life or health. Adverse conditions in the space environment can cause disruption of satellite operations, communications, navigation, and electric power distri...
متن کاملForecasting Space Weather
Forecasting space weather events presents the ultimate challenge to a space physics model. Not only should physical constraints be satisfied, but also practical issues such as timeliness, accuracy, and reliability must be adequately addressed. To address these needs, modern space weather forecasters and users rely on a great variety of space weather models, ranging from simple regressions and e...
